Barak Valley located in the southern part of Assam consists of 3 districts Cachar, Karimganj and Hailakandi. Lets drill down to opportunities in the valley.
When we talk about opportunities we can talk about jobs, education, Professional course. Let me highlight one by one.
Education: “Education is the most powerful weapon we can use to change the world” as quoted by Nelson Mandela.
There are couple of good colleges in the region specially in Silchar that is an NIT, Assam University, Silchar Medical College, Ramanujan Jr. College, (Please note I am citing only the competitive institutions).
Karimganj – Karimganj College, Ramkrishna Nagar College.
Hailakandi – SS College, ALC College, Women’s College
Education Resources through Entrance and outside of the Valley:
Many of the students get through in premiere national institutions or tier II & III govt. colleges while many of them fades away in between. With increasing number of students, the seats are limited and some of the students has to compromise on the quality of education. It is always good to keep second & 3rd option while choosing colleges and for that matter choosing some colleges outside of your home town, city or state could be a viable option. As the major cities will provide you access to many private institutions while the cost will boost up a bit but if you are able to choose the right private college you will be equally good than the govt. college in your home town or even better at times because of all the exposure you are going to experience. Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune are some of the best options to go for. The major boost of being in the above four cities is the presence of Major IT companies which automatically guarantees you a job right after your graduation at the minimum stage. Depending on your abilities as a fresher you might land up with a salary of around 30-40 K for an average student.
While Bangalore & Chennai has a very good education curriculum though the cost of living is a bit higher. The cost of living in Hyderabad is very minimal. The college fees is affordable in Hyderabad in most of the colleges. The plus point of Hyderabad is presence of various Professional Course institutions at an affordable rate. Pune is another option to pursue your higher studies though the cost of living may sooth up a bit.
While in your graduation or Masters it is good to go for additional professional course related to your interest and your stream in academics which will give you an edge in the next course of your career or job. Though it will be a bit of burden but I believe there is nothing we can’t achieve if we have a will to do so. Like a student takes a year to write exams in Degree college but still fails but a B Tech student writes exams every 6 months but still clears with flying colors. It’s our attitude that differs.
An example of couple of courses: Digital Marketing, Programming Languages, SQL Database Administration, Supply Chain Management etc.
In metro’s you also have access to elite coaching institutes for govt. jobs such as UPSC Civil Services, PO, Bank exams, CAT, MAT, GATE and many more.
Employment in the region is limited to few areas govt. sector, school or college teacher, join defence forces Police/Army/CRPF. What about the rest do I end up my life full of joy in the markets of Silchar or nearby my village? The choice is ours dream big and as mentioned in my earlier post explore opportunities in metro’s specially in Bangalore, Hyderabad and Chennai.
